Nissan Engel
Provenance
Born in 1931 in Haifa, Israel, Nissan studied art at the Beaux-Arts Bezalel in Jerusalem and theater design at the Centre Dramatique del’Est in Strasbourg, France. He lived in Paris throughout the 1950s, moving to New York, NY in 1965 where he met and was influenced by Abstract Expressionist painters. Today, Engel’s works are in the collections of the Albright-Knox Museum in Buffalo, the Detroit Institute of Arts, The Jewish Museum in New York, and the Bridgestone Museum in Tokyo, among others.
Daniel Ferro and Nissan Engel experienced a long personal and professional friendship covering over 50 years with shared interest in both the musical and graphic arts. The relationship continues with the Engel and Ferro families today!
