Soyeon Kim

A “sensitive collaborative pianist” was the description in the opera magazine Der Neuer Merker (Vienna, Austria) for the playing of Dr. Soyeon Kim. Dr. Kim has appeared with an extensive range of vocal and instrumental repertoire throughout the United States, Europe, and Korea at the Metropolitan Museum of Art; Alice Tully Hall at Lincoln Center; Zankel Hall and Weill Recital Hall at Carnegie Hall; Merkin Concert Hall in New York City; Sejong Center in Seoul, Korea; Croatian Music Institution in Zagreb, Croatia; Konzerthaus in Berlin and Gasteig in Munich, Germany; Musikverein in Vienna, Austria, among others.

Dr. Kim has worked with distinguished artists such as Fiorenza Cossotto, Giacomo Aragall, Juan Pons, Marilyn Horne, Nicola Martinucci, Martin Arroyo, Thomas Hampson, Anna Moffo, Jennifer Larmore, Bo Skovhus, Denyce Graves, Mira Zakai, Martin Katz, Dalton Baldwin, Daniel Ferro, Giancarlo Pasquetto, Glenn Dicterow, Sir James Galway, Karl-Heinz Schütz, Julien Beaudiment, Stefan Hoskuldsson, Mark Nuccio, Eric Speller, Jean Ferrandis, Judith Mendenhall, Philippe Bernold, Linda Chesis, Denis Bouriakov, Shanghi Quartet, Wolfgang Scheidt and Carlo Palleschi among others. She frequently has made appearances at a number of chamber music concerts such as Princeton Symphony Orchestra Chamber Series, Cathedral of Saint John Divine Concert Series, Friday Musicale Concert Series, and Trinity at One, the Countess Christina Schoenborn Concert Series in Vienna.

Dr. Kim has won awards for her artistry in several competitions in Korean and the United States including First Prize and Best Liszt Interpretation of Liszt in William Garrison International Piano Competition, Second Prize in Artur Balsam Competition for Duos, and Laureate in the Korea Festival Ensemble Chamber Music Competition.

Dr. Kim is currently a Senior Lecturer in Vocal Music at Vanderbilt University. Previously, she was a faculty member at Montclair State University in New Jersey and served as a vocal coach and staff pianist at the Manhattan School of Music for several years. Her experience includes working with prestigious programs such as Bel Canto in Tuscany, the American Institutes of Musical Studies in Graz, the Accademia di Canto: International Belcanto Summer Academy in Vienna, Chamber Music Dolomiti in Italy, and the New York Vocal Institute Summer Opera Program. Additionally, she has been involved with the Manhattan Summer Voice Festival at the Manhattan School of Music and Respiro Opera in New York City.

She holds master’s and doctoral degrees in collaborative piano from the Manhattan School of Music, as well as bachelor’s and master’s degrees in piano performance from Seoul National University.
